30 Apr Socializing with Pie and Books: A DJCC Event Recap
By Olivia Wilmsen, Buzz Team Member
It was a pizza pie blast at the April DJCC Happy Hour! Social Pie was buzzing on Thursday evening with the heavenly smell of pie. Pizza pie that is! Social Pie, a new pizza and beer hot spot in the hospital district, was gracious enough to offer the DJCC some ‘Za’ for our hungry happy hour folk.
It wasn’t just the pie that brought members and newbies to the event. HH attendees were encouraged to donate a children’s book for the Little Free Libraries of Dallas. The drive is the newest initiative of the Philanthropy team — aka the “Philos”. Alley Plake, VP of Philanthropy, was thrilled to a few people donated books.
“Any contribution for our philanthropy efforts by our members showcases how committed our organization is to Dallas. In this instance, seeing books being brought to a happy hour solidifies why we are all here. We are here to ensure Dallas remains the great city we all love. The book donations for The Little Free Library will not only provide a resource for those in need but also help foster a heart for giving in our next generation,” said Plake.
The Little Free Libraries/Libros Libres operate under the “take a book, leave a book,” principal, and they’re publicly accessible and free. The program has brought together local artists, designers and community leaders to design and build a range of public outdoor book exchanges in West Dallas, South Dallas/Fair Park and south Oak Cliff.
